How do you measure YOUR year?
If you think about it, every minute of life is a unique gift. Like a snowflake, there will never be another moment quite like this ever again. On the outside, the environment and circumstances will always be different, sometimes similar but different nonetheless. Internally, we are ever changing and ever growing, like a wise old willow tree that keeps growing both above and below ground who continuously changes with the seasons.
As the year comes to a close and you begin to think about the year ahead, be sure to spend some time looking back BEFORE you look forward. I urge you to make some time during the next few weeks to pause, look back, remember, acknowledge, and (most importantly) celebrate the closing year.
We tend to forget how much we DID do, even if there are still many items on our to-do lists. Taking the time to acknowledge all we did do and experience shifts us from feeling guilty to feeling grateful. It allows us to close the year behind us and open the space to create the year ahead of us.
How did you spend your 529,600 minutes?
As you reminisce, take note of how you felt when you accomplished a goal, savored a sunset, or experienced something new. This will help when you begin to plan out your desires for the upcoming year.
From this place of celebration and awareness, you can get clear on how you actually want to FEEL in the New Year.
“Knowing how you actually want to feel is the most potent form of clarity that you can have. Generating those feelings is the most powerfully creative thing you can do with your life.” says Danielle LaPorte, author of The Fire Starter Sessions and The Desire Map.
More often than not, you are not chasing the goal itself, you are chasing the feelings that you hope attaining the goals will give you. Why not start by getting clear on how you actually want to feel within yourself? Then you can design your to-do list and plan your course of action. When you are clear on how you want to feel, you can truly create a life that you love.
So how do you measure 529,600 moments in time?
Perhaps some lyrics from Seasons of Love by Rent will inspire you……….
In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-nine thousand six hundred minutes………..
How do you measure a year in the life?
